The trial of Mazi Chinonso Uba popularly known as Nonsonkwa over an alledged cybercrime against Gov Hope Uzodimma commenced fully at the Federal High Court Abuja with the former commissioner of Information,Mr Declan Emelumba testifying against him as a witness to the crime allegedly committed by Nonsonkwa.
During the cross examination,the counsel to the defendant, Barr Nnaemeka Ejoifor, asked the witness, if there was Ebubeagu vigilante in Imo,the witness said No, that such is never in existence in Imo.
He was further asked if there was a time the South East governors gathered in Imo to launch Ebubeagu vigilante and which was given wide publication by national dailies,the witness said nothing like that ever happened.
The learned counsel probing further, showed him the Punch , Vanguard, Cable, Sun, and Premium Times online Newspapers where it was boldly captured that Ebubeagu was launched in South East, but the witness said the publications were not true.
The counsel to the defendant,drew the attention of the witness to an interview he granted to the Punch Newspaper on the 8th of January 2022,when he was still the Information commissioner, where he acknowledged that Ebubeagu is operational in Imo but not yet launched.
The witness denied ever granting such interview.
When asked if he has ever come across a certain man known as Asari Dokubo,the witness said it’s only on the social media he hears about him. But when asked if he could recognize the said Asari Dokubo in a picture ,he said He could.
However when the defendant’s counsel asked if he could recognize him in a video,the witness said No.
Nonsonkwa was arrested on the 27th of July 2023 on his way home after his morning program in Ozisa Fm Owerri by a team of Tiger Base Police officers used by the IGP monitoring team.
He was detained for 32days at the Maitama police station Abuja over a video he made where he allegedly accused Governor Uzodimma of Using Asari Dokubo to recruit Ebubeagu vigilante who burnt Houses and killed Imo youths.
Meanwhile the case was adjourned till April 25th 2024 for the 2nd withness to testify.
Speaking to Journalists at the court premises,Mazi Chinonso Uba Nonsonkwa urged Ndi Imo to keep praying for him and insisted that at the end of the day the Truth Must surely prevail….
