–         As Plot To Impeach Fubara Gathers Momentum Amidst Wike’s Rumoured Defection

In what many described as calculated political onslaught sponsored by the former Governor of Rivers State, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) against his political son and erstwhile confidant.

Governor Simi Fubara, 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, to the All Progressive Congress APC.

This, development, according to political pundits may not be unconnected to the prevailing political tension arising from the power tussle between Governor Fubara who was elected on the platform of the PDP and his now estranged god father, Nyesom Wike, who, it is whispered in several quarters has concluded plans to also dump the PDP for the APC.

The crisis between the former Governor and his estranged political son who he allegedly went extra length to ensure his emergence as the current Governor of Rivers State was brought to the public dormain following the burning of the River State House of Assembly complex on October, 29. Reacting to the unfortunate case of arson, FCT Minister, Wike accused the State Governor, Similayi Fubara of masterminding the incident.

The rift among members of the State House of Assembly had led to some lawmakers commencing impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. This move was, however, halted following the intervention of President Tinubu.

A member of the Assembly, Enemi George, who confirmed the development to newsmen said the 27 lawmakers were under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule.

According to him, the decision to defect to APC was taken during their sitting on Monday.

In this case, the governor, Fubara, may also be running into a hitch as this action of the majority of the House of Assembly members may translate to impeachment in the days to come.
