The Chairman of Imo state Council of Elders,HRM Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya,CON has distanced himself from a report and speculations in some quarters that he is among some Igbo leaders who are opposed to the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Ilomuanya stated this in a recent release signed by his special Adviser on Media,Mr Kennedy Eweama and made available to to us.
The release reads in full;”The attention of the Obi of Obinugwu and Chairman, Imo State Council of Elders, HRM Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya,CON, has been drawn to a false story circulating in the media, particularly, various social media outlets, to the effect that His Majesty is among some Igbo business men and politicians opposed to the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention.
“This assumption is in its entirety false, misleading and lacking in substance. There is no iota of truth in the story and should be totally disregarded by the public.
“His Majesty, as a patriot,and Igbo leader, who is committed to a just cause, wishes to further state as follows :
“1.That he is shocked and in disbelief that such blackmail and unfounded propaganda can be levelled against him.
“2. That His Majesty has never at any time or forum discussed any issue aimed at the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or any plans to further incarcerate him.
“3. That the allegation is not only spurious, but wicked, callous and done in bad faith to smear his integrity and image.
“4. That as an Igbo leader and detribalized Nigerian, His Majesty remains committed to fairness, and rule of law.
“5. That as a father, His Majesty is calling for the prompt release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from further incarceration.
“6. The public is please, advised to disregard the media story purporting that His Majesty to be working against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release because he has no reason whatsoever to do so. The story is baseless and lacks substance”.
