There are reports that the former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, his supporters and other prominent Orlu leaders, have, after series of meetings decided to throw their weight behind Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, come November, 11.
A source who does not want his name in print told our reporter that, “what was initially considered to be a rumour, has become a reality as the former Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and members of his Rescue Mission family have decided to mobilize support for Samdaddy in their various dormains”.
It was also gathered that a prominent son of Ideato Nation, and former State Chairman of a political party, who was in Uzodinma’s camp, has abandoned the governor, who he said has no regard for people.
One of his confidants who spoke to this reporter, said “Oga has decided to distance himself from Uzodinma’s re-election on the ground that he, his aides and associates are insensitive and disrespectful. He said, that, they have no regard for any person. Hence, he cannot condescend to the level of hob nobbing with people who lack respect and compassion for humanity”.
Speaking in the same vein, a committed member of the Rescue Mission family who does not want his name mentioned said, after witnessing what happened to Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu and other political leaders who disagreed with the Uzodinma, administration, they decided not to openly campaign and mobilize support for Samdaddy but have subtly directed their foot soldiers to embark on a sensitization and mobilization campaign for Samdaddy because, “Uzodinma, who has become an unrepentant tyrant in his first tenure, will definitely become worse than a consuming fire, if re-elected”.
“That is why we have decided to support Samdaddy’s emergence as the next Governor of Imo State. But if Samdaddy behaves like Uzodinma, we will also mobilize the necessary wherewithal to send him packing when the time comes”.
The source further said, “as I speak to you now, former Governor Okorocha’s erstwhile Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kenneth Umelo and others who served in Okorocha’s cabinet are presently holding meetings in their different wards.
A prominent politician from Orsu LGA, who contested the governorship election in 2007, whose wife also served as a Local Government Chairman, is also said to be working tirelessly alongside other leaders in Orlu zone to ensure that Uzodinma’s re-election bid does not see the light of day. He was quoted as saying that Uzodinma’s emergence is the worst thing that has happened to some of them who have been chased out of their ancestral homes as a result of insecurity. “Yet, the Governor is not doing anything to address the situation which has become a hydra-headed menace. “As far as we are concerned, it is difficult for Uzodinma to exonerate himself from the frightening insecurity that is ravaging Orlu zone”.
The former governorship aspirant further disclosed that most of the people who are following Uzodinma about now are not truly with him but because of the money they are either making or intend to make from him.
