-Says: Orlu Will Contest In 2027, Not 2023
Orlu Peoples Movement (OYM), a socio-cultural group in Orlu zone, has called on illustrious sons and daughters of the zone to start preparing themselves to contest the Governorship election in 2027, as it would officially be the turn of the zone to produce the next governor of the State.
The National President of the group, Chief Walter Nnadi, stated this while addressing journalists yesterday.
Nnadi, stated that they are presently supporting either Owerri or Okigwe zone ahead of the November, 11, governorship election in the state, just like they supported Chief Emeka Ihedioha in 2019, because, they believed that it was the turn of either Owerri or Okigwe zone to produce the Governor then. But unfortunately, Ihedioha, who eventually won the election , lost the position to Hope Uzodinma, who Orlu people did not vote for including those from Oru East Local Government Area where he comes from.
“Even in his Local Government Area, Oru East, Hon Nwaneri, the incumbent lawmaker emerged on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, before he was cajoled to defect to the APC.
“It is also on record that in 2019, Hon Nnodumele emerged as a member of the Imo State House of Assembly for Orsu State Constituency on the platform of the APGA while Pascal Okolie also emerged as lawmaker for Orlu State constituency on the platform of the PDP.
In the same vein, Hon Jerry Alagboso won his Federal House of Representative seat for Orlu, Orsu, Oru East Federal constituency on the platform of the PDP. All these, attest to the fact that Uzodinma was not in control and the people of Orlu zone were not also on the same page with him and the APC politically. Neither did they vote for Uzodinma nor the APC that he represents”.
Continuing, the group said, “this time around we will support a candidate from either Owerri or Okigwe zone, hoping that it will be the turn of Orlu zone in 2027.
“Based on that, we will ensure that a patriotic, focused and people-oriented person who is passionately committed to the wishes, aspirations and welfare of Orlu people is elected.We won’t stop at that, we will fund his campaign”.
“We therefore call on the people of Owerri and Okigwe zones to put their houses in order and ensure that the best among them is given maximum support and encouragement to emerge victorious, come November, 11, 2023 polls”.
