The final list of candidates that are qualified to contest the November, 11, governorship election in Imo State released by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has confirmed that Senator Athan Achonu, who is number 11 on the list, is the authentic candidate of Labour Party.
This development which is also in line with the recent judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which reaffirmed Barr Julius Abure’s position as the National Chairman of Labour Party.
The final list of 17 governorship candidates and their running mates released by INEC, has put to rest speculations and anxiety in several quarters, occasioned by the series of litigations and counter litigations accompanied by conflicting judgments secured from different courts.
With this development, the Imo electorate now know who to vote for as all doubts have been cleared as regards who is qualified or not qualified to contest the up coming election.
Some political pundits who commented on the final list released by INEC, described it as a welcome development that is in line with the decision of the party and its delegates who chose Senator Achonu as the party’s governorship candidate.
According to them “most of those who paraded themselves as governorship candidates of Labour Party are stooges and surrogates who were masters to forment trouble and cause confusion with the intention of destabilizing and derailing the focus of Labour Party and its leadership and also pave way for their sponsors who Imo people have long rejected”.
