A non-partisan pro-democracy group, Coalition of Imo Youths for Credible Candidate, CIYCC, has declared their unflinching support for the governorship aspiration of Accord candidate for the November 11 poll, Ikenga JohnJude Uchenna Okere and endorsed him as their choice candidate.
Rising from its monthly meeting held Friday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the youth group said its decision to adopt Ikenga Okere’s candidature was the result of a critical survey and analysis of the political parties and their candidates for the coming poll.
In a statement issued after the meeting by CIYCC National Coordinator, Comrade Japheth Ikedi Ukwuoma, the group stated that its was informed by the impeccable credentials of Ikenga Okere who topped the credibility chart of the survey it conducted.
Ukwuoma who noted that the group believes that if INEC conducts a free, fair and transparent election in Imo, the Accord candidate would emerge victorious because of the integrity edge he has over other contestants.
He urged other gubernatorial flagbearers from Owerri and Okigwe Zones to eschew ego tripping, drop their ambition and rally support for Okere, who he described as a disciplined, vibrant and visionary personality ‘most suitable for the plum job now.’
His words, “May we advise and urge all the governorship candidates from Owerri and Okigwe Zones to be humble and work together for the common interest of Ndi Imo. They should rally support for Ikenga JohnJude Uchenna Okere who we have seen as the best among the rest.
“The lessons of the last presidential election where Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar jointly polled over 13million votes but still lost Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu because they shared their votes, should not repeat. Had the duo joined hands to support one person, either of them would have won the election.
“If the opposition is serious and sincere to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, they have to heed this wise counsel and support the youthful Accord candidate. A word is enough for the wise.”
Ukwuoma further encouraged Ikenga Okere to extend his consultations to his brother candidates from Owerri and Okigwe zones to woo them and seek their tactical withdrawal from the race and pave way for his emergence.
The group decried the unabating Insecurity, infrastructural and moral decay across all strata of the society as well as increasing economic hardship and its attendant ravaging poverty.
