The nooks and crannies of the three Local Government Areas of Owerri zone were in festive moods on Friday, September, 10, 2023, following the victory of the Labour Party incumbent Senator, Ezenwa Onyewuchi at the Imo State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
The Tribunal sitting in Nasarawa had thrown out the petitions filed by Chief Uche Onyeagucha and Prince Alex Mbata of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and All Progressive Congress APC respectively seeking the nullification of Onyewuchi’s in the February, 25, 2023 National Assembly.
Sequel to of Senator Onyewuchi’s re-election into the senate on the platform of Labour Party, the duo of Onyeagucha and Mbata who were roundly trounced, approached the tribunal with the hope of upturning Onyewuchi’s victory but were disappointed as the tribunal upheld the Owerri zone senator’s victory as well deserved and judiciously won.
And no sooner had they done that, that songs of joy and thanksgiving, estatic celebration and reactions saturated the air in several quarters in the nine local governments of the zone.
In his reaction from Ikeduru a business man and politician, Chief Chijioke Isdore described the victory as judicial affirmation of the divine will of God, which was expressed through the Owerri Zone electorate.
He said the lawmaker and other elected officials of Labour Party in the state, won their elections transparently, without any trace of fraud and manipulation, as the electorate across the state,. South East and country wilfully and happily cast their votes for all LP candidates, from Mr Peter Obi right down to last candidate.
Chief Isdore noted that the overwhelming manner in which the electorate voted for LP would have been enough signal to all those who lost, that what happened was beyond human machination, and therefore, shelve the idea of testing the will of God.
He, however regretted that their senses of reasoning and perception were beclouded by the burning urge for vendetta and settling of scores, hence the decision to embark on the fatal journey of testing the might of divinity and will of the people.
