– Says; FESTAC 419ers Can’t Upturn Nation’s Victory
The member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State in the Federal House of Representative, Hon Ikenga Imo Chinyere, has said that he will challenge his removal by the Imo State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Nasarawa State at the Court of Appeal.
Ikenga who addressed a world press conference shortly after the tribunal gave it’s verdict accused Governor Hope Uzodinma of masterminding his removal because he is scared about his overwhelming popularity and mass acceptance.
He said, “the gimmick worked for them at the Supreme Court but will not work for them now”.
He noted that the ground upon which his victory was upturned by the tribunal had already been settled by the Supreme Court, adding that the same candidate of the APC who is flying the present kite was the person who went to court when he emerged as the candidate of the PDP but the court in its verdict then, affirmed that the emergence of candidates of political parties are domestic issues that concern the affected political parties and does not concern outsiders. Hence, he is surprised that the tribunal over ruled the apex court and gave judgment in favour of the APC candidate who had earlier lost at the apex Court.
Continuing, he said, “Uzodinma, having realized that I defeated all his appointees including his wife in their various polling booths is doing everything possible to ensure that I am not allowed to recontest because he knows that if the election is held over and over again, I will still emerge victorious. That is why they want it to be a contest strictly between the APC and Labour Party”.
He however expressed optimism that the apex court will do justice to the matter.
According Ikenga, those who he described as FESTAC 419ners wouldn’t have their way as they did at the Supreme court when they were declared wrn f⁶rom 3rd position.
