– As APC, Governor Allegedly Doles Out Huge Sum Of Money For Hatchet Job
There are reports that members of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, who recently defected to the All Progressive Congress APC, have been paid huge amounts of money by the All Progressive Congress and the Hope Uzodinma administration to unleash a spate of media attacks on leaders of the opposition who they perceive as threats to their personal and collective interests.
A Government House source who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that, “worried by the recent media outing of Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere who currently represents Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where he pointedly accused Governor Uzodinma of being responsible for the prevailing insecurity in the state, the APC and the state government recruited and mobilized the decampees, who are mostly former state executives of the PDP in Imo State to start attacking and discrediting Ikenga Ugochinyere and other credible leaders of the opposition in Imo State”.
It was also gathered from a reliable source, that “they have resolved to use the decampees who have no other option than to do the bidding of their current masters, by unleashing calculated media attacks aimed at discrediting and tarnishing the image of leaders of the opposition in Imo State, in a bid to justify the money they were paid”.
They also alleged that each member of the PDP State Working Committee SWC, who recently defected to the APC, was paid the sum of #5m to join the APC.
“Though, some of them have refuted the allegation. But recent developments, including the way they have thrown caution to the wind in their desperation to do their new masters’ bidding shows that a lot of water actually passed through the tunnel. Besides, if their periodic media attacks against prominent members of the opposition are anything to go by, then the allegations may not be far from the truth. It should also be noted that, like Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who left the PDP to join the APC, the new defectors in their desperation to be accommodated and fully accepted into the fold, have no option then to do whatever they are told to do. Moreso, when their conscience have been reportedly bought over by the Governor and his cohorts who are said to be willing to do anything to actualize his second term ambition despite his abysmal performance in his first outing”.
“As a matter of fact, the new decampees have boxed themselves into a very tight corner because, as it is now, they are between the devil and the deep blue sea, which is what is called a point of no retreat, no surrender.
“Having mortgaged their conscience, reputation and integrity on the altar of political pettiness and pecuniary benefits, they have no other option than to do hatchet jobs for Uzodinma and the APC as a means of survival.
“There are also reports that the decampees have been assured of political appointments, should Governor Uzodinma be re-elected. However, one of the conditions they were given for that is to ensure that they undermine the chances of the opposition at the November, 11, Governorship election by unleashing series of media attacks on opposition leaders”.
The APC, has in recent times come under severe attack over what many have described as poor, inept and lack lustre governance that has left in its trail, unprecedented blood bath, occasioned by frightening insecurity, lack and deprivation that has made life unbearable for the citizens.
