The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma’s incessant trips to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Lagos, at the expense of his official duties has continued to attract the attention of concerned Imo people at home and in the Diaspora, most of who have advised him to stop frittering away the states scare resources on his fruitless trips and concentrate on how to address the hydra-headed challenges confronting the state.
One of those who first cautioned the Governor against the frivolous and wasteful trips to Abuja is the candidate of African Democratic Alliance for the November, 11, Imo State governorship election, Prof James Okoroma who berated Governor Uzodinma for wasting the much needed resources of the state in junketing to and from Abuja to solicit the favour of President Tinubu whose emergence he initially worked against.
Okoroma in his speech, likened Uzodinma’s attitude to that of Emperor Nero who was said to have engaged in unnecessary frivolities while Rome was bleeding on all fronts.
He berated the Governor for gallivanting as if nothing is happening while insecurity is taking its toll on the lives and properties of Imo people.
It was however gathered that Governor Uzodinma’s frequent trips to Abuja is to press buttons to enable him be in the good books of President Bola Tinubu.
A government House source who does not want his name in print said, ‘’Governor Uzodinma, having realized the blunder he committed by supporting and mobilizing funds to buy the APC presidential nomination form for the former Senate President Ahmed Lawan is now doing everything he can to pacify President Tinubu, who he and some of his allies neither supported, nor gave a chance prior to the APC presidential primaries.
The source also quoted Governor Uzodinma as having boasted that he is ready to spend any amount to ensure that the president supports his re-election bid.
Continuing, he said, ‘’the Hope Uzodinma that I know and have associated with is ready to spend the whole allocation of Imo State to achieve his aim. But the problem is that, it will not be easy for him because, he openly threw caution to the wind in his support for Lawan, when it mattered most. Tinubu and his aides are very much aware of this’’.
