“The customary land owners of Nekede, Avu and Okuku, in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, have distanced and dissociated themselves from a communique issued by the All Progressive Congress, APC, Owerri West Local Government Area chapter at the end of a meeting they held at the country home of Hon Levi Ogwuike on Thursday, July, 6, 2023.
This is contained in a release signed by the stakeholders of the concerned communities, in response to the aforementioned communique as published on page 10 of Announcer Express Newspaper edition of Monday July, 10, 2023.
They accused the APC Owerri West Elders who authored the communique in question of being insensitive to the plight of the customary land owners of Avu, Nekede and Okuku, while also condemning what they referred to “as the arrogant display of impunity by the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, Noble Atuelgwu in the exercise of the land acquisition functions of his ministry”.
The release which was signed by “Hon Obinna Obasi Umuejechi, Nekede, Martins U. Agwe, Nekede, Hon IK. U. Obiyor, Nekede, Obilon Onyemechara Umudoche, Umuoma, Nekede, Ikenna Onyeukwu Umudoche, Umuoma, Nekede, Chijioke Oparah Umudoche, umuoma, Nekede, Pst Kenneth Onyekwela, Umuezerokam, Nekede, Ugochukwu Opara Umudochie, Umuoma, Nekede, Ordu Frank Umudoche, Umuoma, Nekede, Hon Kyrian Onyechere Uborji, Okuku, Elder Vincent Njoku, Avu, Elder Ernest Njoku, Avu, Eugene Ekewuba, Avu, Ebere Ordu, Umuoma, Nekede and Festus Ag duru, Agam, Avu, further stated that, “to this effect, we disclaim the publication and particularly the statement that “Our concerned communities fully supported Governments compulsory acquisition of these portions of land for development purpose which is in overriding public interest”. This statement smacks of vainglory, impudence and insensitivity to the plight of our people”.
“What is more annoying is to say that the Elders noted that full compensation has been paid, as well as compensatory plots role released to affected communities where necessary”. Perhaps, the so called APC Elders are in the politics of “Stomach infrastructure” to fester their nets at the detriment of the empowerment of their people. They need to be told that the payment of Compensation and Compensatory Plots allocation only signify the completion of land acquisition following due process. In which of these cases was due process adopted?”
