Worried by the frightening spate of insecurity in Orlu zone, the National Executive Council NEC of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, (OYA) the apex socio-cultural umbrella body of youths in the twelve Local Government Areas of Orlu zone, yesterday convened an emergency meeting at the association’s secretariat in Orlu, where they resolved to interface with the relevant security agencies and stakeholders in Orlu with a view to finding a lasting solution to the menace which has become hydra-headed.
Addressing newsmen shortly after a 4-hour meeting, the National President of OYA, Comrade Thaddeus Emejuru, expressed serious concern over the incessant killings in Orlu.
He noted that as the apex socio-cultural youth group in Orlu zone, they can no longer keep quiet, fold their hands and wait endlessly for politicians to resolve the problem which has dealt devastating blows on the people. Hence, they have resolved to reach out to security agencies and critical stakeholders with a view to finding a lasting solution to the security challenges in Orlu.
The group used the opportunity to call on the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, as the Chief security officer of the state, to as a matter of urgency, wade into the problem brewing at Agwa, in Oguta Local Government Area, where the indigenes are having issues with Fulani herdsmen, leading to the gruesome murder of a motorcyclist and others.
OYA regretted that, Orlu zone that used to be clam and peaceful, has suddenly become a theatre of war where the blood of innocent people, especially youths is constantly shed with careless abandon, allegedly, by State and non state actors. This, they said, must stop, because it is an ill wind that blows no one good.
They also called on the youths of the zone to shun violence, embrace peace and avoid anything that will escalate the already tensed situation in the area.
