As preparations by different political parties for primary elections, ahead of the November, 11, Imo State governorship election gather momentum, there are speculations that All Progressive Congress APC government in Imo state, is sponsoring some candidates who the party paid to infiltrate, weaken and destabilize Labour Party LP, with a view to ensuring the emergence of a weak and docile candidate who will not only be a push over but also be amenable to his whims and caprices.
Some stakeholders who decoded their game plan and spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that, if not the intervention of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the infiltrators would have succeeded.
It was also gathered that the ill-timed dissolution of the state exco of the party, few days to the House of assembly elections, allegedly at the prompting of Onyekwere who is said to be working hand-in-gloves with Gov Uzodinma was designed to weaken, distract and destabilize the house of assembly candidates at the most crucial moment.
One of the concerned stakeholders who was a member of Onyekwere’s exco wondered how and why one man was allowed to produce all members of the state exco, a development he said has never happened before.
When also contacted, a government house source who confirmed that some of aspirants are moles who are being funded and whose main objective is to polarize, weaken and destabilize Labour Party, in addition to ensuring the emergence of a feather weight governorship candidate for the November, 11, election. This, he said, is because the incumbent Governor is scared of the rising profile of LP and its array of credible, experienced and unblemished candidates whose verifiable track records are intimidating and verifiable.
‘’Besides, the mass rejection of APC and its candidates by Imo people as shown in the results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the State has also sent jitters up the spine of the Governor and his group. That is why they are doing everything they can to destabilize Labour Party which they know is the electorates’ party of choice’’.
Presently, 13 aspirants have positioned themselves for the Labour Party Imo State governorship primary election following the demise of Chief Humphrey Anumudu who was a frontline governorship aspirant in the State.
According to a government house source ‘’nobody knows who the moles are but about nine of the governorship aspirants are being funded by the APC’’.
