Worried by what they referred to as the questionable silence of the Hope Uzodinma administration about reports of the various panels of inquiry set up by the short lived Emeka Ihedioha administration, in the state, a cross section of Imo people are asking why the State government has suddenly slowed the tempo of its orchestrated recovery process.
This is coming barely few weeks after it was rumored that the Governor has reconciled with former Governor Rochas Okorocha who was alleged to have illegally acquired lots of government and individuals properties.
A source who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity said, ‘’there are speculations in different quarters that, sequel to an understanding reached between Governor Hope Uzodinma and former Governor Rochas Okorocha which was said to have been brokered by some of Okorocha’s men who found their way into the current administration, the former seems to have compromised hence the zeal and commitment with which he pursued the recovery process has been considerably dampened’’.
‘’Some of the reports that are of particular interest to Imo people according to feelers at our disposal are, the reports presented by the Committees on Land, Local government funds, contract Awards, among others’’.
Commenting on the development the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Imo State Chapter, Collins Opuruzor, said, ‘’it is unfortunate that the solid foundation laid by Governor Ihedioha with the aim of sanitizing the system and ensure good governance has been rubbished by Governor Hope Uzodinma and his cohorts. The remarkable achievements recorded by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in a very short time, have been bastardized.
Opuruzor further stated that Governor Hope Uzodinma and his co-travelers are now using reports of the panels as political weapons with which they whip political opponents into line, especially those who are perceived to have political clout.
‘’The APC government in Imo State has weaponized reports of the panels, thereby encouraging selective justice if the report indicts supporters or loyalists of state government will be down played. But when members of the opposition are involved they are clamped on and subjected to the full wrath of the law’’.
Another source who pleaded anonymity said,”For instance the large expanse of land formerly earmarked for the construction of a new government House which was allocated to highly placed individuals by the Rochas Okorocha administration has become a cash cow for some unscrupulous government officials who use officials of Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) to threaten occupants of the houses there with demolition, as a prelude to extorting huge sums of money as settlement’’.
Continuing, the source disclosed that , ‘’another area where the State government’s inexplicable silence has become worrisome considering the initial controversy it generated is the Shell Camp quarters which was allocated to high profile individuals by the Okorocha administration.
