-Pledges to execute more projects
Distinguished Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi has explained that his firm belief in the power of education to break the poverty chain and change lives, is the key reason he is working assiduously at attracting educational facilities.
The lawmaker representing Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone) in Nigeria the Senate of also identified his interest in recovering societal values as another factor propelling his efforts at repositioning the critical sector for effective service delivery.
He made the disclosure recently in Owerri, the Imo State Capital, while fielding questions from journalists, after a leadership meeting of the Labour Party.
Senator Onyewuchi said that once a person acquires qualitative education which gives him relevant skills and knowledge, achieving success in any field of endeavour becomes possible.
He further disclosed that success in one’s chosen career more often than not translates to improvement in standard of living for the individual and, by extension his family and relations.
He stressed that it is because of this clear cut understanding of the proven power of education to fight the scourge of poverty and other existential challenges, that he is passionate about improving its quality, through provision of infrastructural facilities.
He posited that in pursuit of that objective he has devoted time and energy to leveraging legislative instrument to attract educational facilities for schools in the nine local government areas under his jurisdiction.
The lawmaker disclosed that within the last three years of being in the senate, he has succeeded in attracting not less than twenty of such facilities, which consists of classrooms blocks, Information Communication Technology laboratories, administrative and staff offices and water boreholes.
He added that he is stepping up efforts towards facilitating construction of more of such projects in schools within the zone to help avail pupils, students and teachers the conducive atmosphere they desire for effective teaching and learning.
The lawmaker pointed out that in addition to conducive environment for learning, his earnest push to contribute to the rediscovery of lost social values continues to stimulate his passion for education development.
According to him, strengthening the education system could fast track the achievement of the objective of values restoration, since schools beyond their core mandate of knowledge impartation, are also veritable tools for reorientation, sensitization and awareness creation.
The Labour Party candidate for Owerri Zone Senate Seat in the forthcoming 2023 general election, who noted that being an opposition lawmaker constitutes a serious drawback in his quest to do more for his people, however assured them of his total commitment to continue to use his legislative experience to struggle to attract more infrastructure and services that will add value to their lives individually and collectively.
