-Says report handwork of detractors
Ichie Uche Best Mbanaso, erstwhile Mayor of Orlu and former commissioner for works in Imo State under the Rochas Okorocha administration has refuted a report trending on several social media platforms that he has been appointed as the commander of Ebubeagu security outfit in Imo State.
Ichie Mbamaso who was also Special Adviser to former Governor Okorocha on Market Development made the clarification in a video that is also trending online.
The Umudim, Umuowa, Orlu born politician emphatically said, ‘’ having served the state in different capacities as a two time Commissioner, the Mayor of Orlu and later as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Market Development, it would demean my status to condescend to the level of being the Commander of Ebubeagu Security outfit. I can’t even accept the position of a local government Chairman or State legislator. The only position I can aspire to today, If I decide to do so is either that of a Governor, member of the House of Representatives or Senator’’.
‘’ Besides, I have always championed the crusade against injustice in all ramification. Hence, I would not at the same time support, encourage, aid or abet injustice in any semblance. That was why I formed the Coalition’.
“I voluntanly disengaged myself from the Okorocha administration to avoid being seen as part of plot to perpetuate injustice against Imo people’.
He described the said report as a deliberately concocted falsehood from the pit of hell; aimed at tarnishing his hard earned image and reputation built over time.
‘’Everybody who knows me will attest that I am private sector oriented. I am presently committed to running my personal business transactions’.
‘’It is also on record that I performed creditably in all the positions I held while in government as evidenced by the numerous projects I executed in Orlu and beyond. That is why my name rings a bell till date’’.
He urged Imolites and the general public to disregard and discountenance with the report which according to him is false, malicious and misleading.
Recall that Ebubeagu security outfit established by the Imo State government has consistently been in the news for the very wrong reasons even though some quarters argue that they have tamed criminals terrorising Orlu areas while the locals insist innocent people are being extra-judiciously killed by them.
Not long ago, the security outfit was accused of being responsible for the massacre of about 14 youths who were returning from a traditional wedding ceremony at Otulu in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State.
They were also accused of being responsible the recent killings at Agwa, and Oguta in Oguta Local government area, aside other atrocious acts at Izombe in Oguta and Orogwe, in Owerri West local government area among others. The numerous alleged reports of killings, kidnapping and arson among other acts of recklessness has aroused serious concern among the populace, most of who have called for the dissolution of the outfit.
