The former Secretary to the Imo State Government and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Imo East for the forthcoming 2023 general election, Hon Uche Onyeagucha has said he will not apologize to senator Hope Uzodinma for stating the obvious.
Onyeagucha was reacting to the statement credited to an Orlu group which he described as paid agents of Imo State Government who parade themselves as members of Orlu Political Consultative Assembly (OPOCA) as most unfortunate.
He disclosed this in a press release signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Prince Macdonald Enwere and made available to newsmen, yesterday.
OPOCA had earlier accused Onyeagucha of being behind the insecurity in Orlu and also demanded an unreserved apology from him within 48 hours.
Onyeagucha in the recent time has remained one of the most vocal Imolite who has continued to condemn the manner in which innocent youths from Orlu zone are being slaughtered on daily basis by security agents and tagged bandits without any form of trial or proper investigation.
The former secretary to Imo state government(SSG) maintained that the organisers of the press conference should be ashamed of themselves for supporting the mindless butchering of innocent souls in Orlu zone.
He further stated that the organizers of the press conference are not real members of OPOCA rather certified “jobmen” and paid agents of Imo state government, adding that the real members of OPOCA are opposed to the mindless slaughtering of innocent souls in Orlu by Hope Uzodimma’s administration.
Responding to the 48hrs demand for him to apologize Governor Hope Uzodinma, Onyeagucha stated in clear terms that he has no reason to apologize to anyone and will not do so.
The release reads in part, “associating Onyeagucha with the carnage in Orlu is very laughable. Rather, he is only concerned on the continued cold-blooded slaughtering of innocent Imolites by Hope Uzodimma’s administration.
“That INEC cannot disqualify Hon. Onyeagucha because he has not committed any offence against the nation’s electoral law, anyone who is against that should challenge him in a court of law”.
Continuing , the human right lawyer and activist stated that he is very much willing to make himself available to be arrested and prosecuted by Imo state government for resisting the illegality committed against the people of Imo state during the last election.
He challenged OPOCA and Imo state government to immediately without further delay commence a prosecution process against him within a period of fourteen days or forever remain silent.
Onyeagucha noted that he is not unaware of the fact that Governor Hope Uzodimma is interested in making his Candidate the Senator of Owerri zone. He went on to remind him that he can only vote in Omumma Oru East LGA and cannot decide for the people of Owerri zone who represents them at the Senate.
The Owerri West LGA born politician assured that he will not be distracted by Hope Uzodimma’s diversionary gimmicks and further reiterated that Governor Uzodimma must give account of innocent souls slaughtered under his administration.
