· Set to receive decampees from other Parties
· As Charles Ahize speaks on party’s agenda for Nigerians
As the build-up to the 2023 general elections heightens, the candidates of Labour Party for all elective positions in Orlu zone, ranging from the Senate, Federal House of Representatives and House of Assembly held a meeting at Protea Hotel, Owerri, over the weekend to strategize on how to ensure victory for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi and other candidates of the party contesting for various elective positions in the zone.
The meeting which was held at the instance of Labour Party Senatorial candidate for Orlu zone, Chief Charles Ahize, an international businessman, importer and reputable industrialist was also aimed at deciding how to manage the influx of de-decampees from the All Progressive Congress, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those from other political parties who have decided to embrace and identify with the Labour Party, which is said to have become the beautiful bride.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Ahize who spoke on behalf of other candidates posited that the emergence of Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State as the Presidential candidate of Labour Party and the candidates for other elective positions in Orlu zone and Imo state at large can be likened to God’s intervention in the affairs of Nigeria and her citizens who had continuously prayed for good governance and the attendant benefits, as opposed to what could be referred to as the previous years of the locust, caterpillars and cankerworms.
Ahize opined that, “Nigerians have become tired of bad and frustrating governance and have decided to take their destiny in their hands. We should therefore not be aversed to the wind of transformation that is presently blowing all over the country.”
In his contribution, the candidate for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency, on the platform of Labour Party, Hon Pascal Obi said, “Labour Party” understands and appreciates the confidence that Nigerians have reposed on them as a political party,”our candidates have vowed not to disappoint the electorate or be found wanting in the discharge of their legislative duties at all levels.”
He also stated that there is no better time to correct and reverse the ills ravaging the various sectors of the country’s socio-economic and political structure than now, through the election of Peter Obi and other candidates vying for different elective positions on the platform of Labour Party.
He urged Imolites to vote for Labour party at all levels to ensure victory for Nigerians who have been subjected to untold hardship.
Dr Obi who is presently representing Ideato North and South at the National Assembly further noted that, with his experience as a federal lawmaker, if Peter Obi wins the presidential election and has few members of Labour Party at the national assembly the task of presiding over the affairs of the country would be enormous and daunting for him.”
He appreciated Nigerians and Imo people for the love and support they have shown to Peter Obi and Labour Party and urged them to sustain the tempo, stressing that they would neither regret nor be disappointed.
At the end of the meeting, the candidates resolved among other things, to work with the state executive committee towards receiving decampees from other political parties at the different local government levels and to also ensure that all offices of Labour Party in the zone function optimally.
They stressed the need for the electorate to register and obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) which according to tbem, is the first step towards ensuring good governance in Nigeria.
