The lawmaker for Njaba state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly Hon Uju Onwudiwe PhD has, in collaboration with other leaders and stakeholders of the area, secured the release of some indigenes of Njaba who were reportedly arrested and detained at the Anti-kidnapping unit of the Imo state police command without any justifiable reason.
Some released include Okechukwu Chukwuebuka, Onyedike Mmadukaego, Chimma Mbubu, Oluebube Anayo Chinaza and Chinedu Thangod Okeke.
This was contained in a release signed by the office by Onyekwere Jeff, S.A. Media to Hon Uju Onwudiwe.
The statement captioned, “release of Njaba constituents from the Anit-Kidnapping department of the Nigerian Police Force” reads in part, “the office of Rt. Hon. Amb. Uju Onwudiwe PhD wishes to inform Njaba constituents and the general public that our amiable lawmaker, in collaboration with other critical stakeholders of the constituency have maintained relentless commitment to release our people in detention at anti-kidnapping unit of the Nigerian police force. This is based on our conviction that innocent constituents do not need to suffer gruesome fate for crimes they are not involved in and never associated with. Successfully, we have released the following people: Okechukwu Chukwuebuka, Onyedike Mmadukaego, Chimma Mbubu, Oluebube Anayo Chinaza, Chinedu Thankgod Okeke.
“We affirm the contributions of the following leaders in this effort to free innocent people of Njaba as follows: Rt. Hon. Amb. Uju Onwudiwe PhD, Hon. Emeka Iheanacho, IMC Chairman, Chief Vitalis Obi (Etiokwe), Barr. Chris Duru, Prof. Uba Nnabue, Barr. Uche Nwugo, Barr. Emenike, Dr. Bath Okorochukwu.
“We do acknowledge the help of other constituents whose prayers, support and advise immensely helped and has continued to motivate us in bargaining for the release of the detainees.
“We also you to continue to pray for us as we sustain the effort for the release of all innocent detainees from Njaba Constituency.
“We thank you once more for your prayers, support and unconditional love, I convey the assurances of my esteemed regards and love for Njaba people.”
The move which is roundly commended by stakeholders in the area can’t be said of some lawmakers in Orlu zone who have virtually abandoned their oversight functions to be pursuing contracts.
In Orlu and Orsu LGAs, there are reports that many young people are languishing in detention for no reason, except that they appear young, yet none of the elected representatives has deemed it right to make case for them.
