A frontline aspirant for the 2023 Owerri Federal Constituency Seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) Sir Tochukwu Okere has described the Non Indigenes Association (NIA) as an indispensable body in the politics of Owerri Federal Constituency.
Sir Okere made this statement during a consultation visit to the association during the week at Owerri Municipal as part of his campaign consultation tour across the three constituent local government areas of the federal constituency.
This he said, marks a step towards establishing a synergy between him and the non Indigenes.
The brief but fruitful interactive session attracted all stakeholders of the Non Indigenes Association (NIA) of Owerri municipal council.
Sir Okere in his speech, noted that the political development of Owerri and its neighbouring towns would not be complete without the association noting their contribution to the political, economic and social development of the city hence, cannot be dispensed in the conduct of policy and affairs of the constituency which necessitated his resolve to identify and familiarize with the association.
He asserted that their influence over the years has proved very pivotal, in the political dynamics of Owerri zone at large and Owerri federal constituency in particular which is always evident during elections.
He assured them of his commitment towards effectively representing the interest of both indigenes and non indigenes in the constituency.
Sir Okere, also promised to use his experience as a successful business man and entrepreneur, to go beyond policy making in the green chamber to source out viable economic opportunities afforded to his office, if elected into the green chamber to better the constituents and develop the constituency adding that he will promote positive engagement of our teeming youths through government assisted empowerment programs.
The leaders of the association gave their words of encouragement and promised to support any credible candidate who will positively represent Owerri federal constituency as they expressed optimism in Sir Okere’s competence, capability and sagacity to offer the desired quality representation to the constituency.
Notable leaders at the event include; the president of the association Sir Lawrence Okoye, the APC Owerri Municipal Council party Chairman, Hon. Onyekachi Ibezim, Mrs Ada Ekekwe, leaders from the Yoruba and Hausa communities and Interim Management Committee (IMC) Councilors from various wards of the municipal council.
