There was pandemonium around Isu local government area council headquarters where gunmen invaded police station located at Amandugba,shooting sporadically.Two policemen on duty whose identities were not ascertained at the time of filing this report were confirmed dead.Thereafter,set the station ablaze and allegedly abducted others.
Reports from the area indicated that the gunmen took the officers on duty by surprise as they struck between 1am and 2am in the morning of Monday.
By 10am on Monday our correspondent who visited the scene of the attack gathered that the building housing the police station and some of the affected shops were still burning by that time.
When contacted about the incident, the Imo lawmaker for Isu state constituency Rt Hon Ngozi Obiefule confirmed the incident but could not speak further.
However, the Police Public Relation,PRO officer for Imo State Command, Mr Mike Abattam confirmed that two policemen were killed during the attack and investigation is ongoing to unravel and perhaps arrest the perpetrators.
This ugly incident happened barely four months after gunmen invaded and killed two traditional rulers at Njaba local government headquarters.
