The least may not have been heard of the circumstances that surrounded the arrest or abduction of former Chief of Staff and son-in-law to former governor of Imo state,Senator Rochas Okorocha, Chief Uche Nwosu by security operatives who were said to have been drafted from Abuja.Okorocha on Sunday accused senator Hope Uzodinma of playing God and working tirelessly to run his family down.
Okorocha during a press briefing in Owerri maintained that Uzodinma is behind arrest of Uche Nwosu,”he is plotting to cook up stories to nail my son-in-law”.He stated that Uzodinma rather than concentrate on governance of the state and ensuring security of lives and property, is busy pursuing shadowing, with utmost disrespect to the office of the governor. He expressed shock that the security operatives could invade the Church to carry out an arrest of a man they never invited before letalone refusing to honour their invitation. He advised the Inspector general of Police and President Buhari never to allow Uzodinma rubbish their goodwill out of desperation.
The ex-governor narrated how his wife, Nkechi;daughter, Uloma Nwosu and his son-inlaw, Uche Nwosu were manhandled by security operatives who he said were on illegal assignment. He said he had confirmed that the Inspector General of police was unaware of their operation.Okorocha vowed to get to the root of the matter, adding that primary aim of the arrest is to rope his son-Inlaw into alleged sponsorship of Eastern Security Network(ESN).
In a swift reaction, the Imo State government through the commissioner for Information and strategy,Hon Declan Emelumba faulted Okorocha’s claims that governor Hope Uzodinma and his government masterminded the arrest. He challenged Okorocha to mention the number plate of the government house vehicle he claimed was used to arrest his son-in-law, else his should hide his face in shame.
Emelumba averred that Uche Nwosu like every other suspect can be arrested any place, saying that there could be suspicion by the security operatives that he was going to Abuja from his village shortly after his late mother’s Thanksgiving service.
He also faulted the reaction of the immediate past governor of Imo, Rochas Okorocha, to the arrest of Nwosu, the latter’s son-in-law.
He asked,”What is the haste in this press conference trying to politicise an ordinary thing?
“Uche Nwosu is just an indigene of Imo State and a citizen of Nigeria, and if he has run afoul of the law, the police have every right to arrest him, and nobody should dictate to them how they do it.
“It depends on the gravity of the offence, and it depends on the information at their (police) disposal.”
According to him, the former governor is just trying to whip up sentiments and speaking from a state of panic and guilt.
The commissioner asked the former governor to desist from such an act and allow the security operatives who already confirmed the arrest of Nwosu to do their duty.
He stressed that the state government has no hands in the arrest of Okorocha’s son-in-law.
What is painful is that a former governor of this state, Rochas Okorocha, is busy raining abuses on His Excellency, Governor of Imo State [Hope Uzodinma], and saying all manner of things about him”
It would be recalled that Nwosu had on Wednesday, December 22,2021 buried his mother, Ezinne Jemaimah Adanweze. It was said that his arrest was carried out in a gestapo manner while at the Thanksgiving service held on Sunday.
The heavily armed operatives stormed the church with high-powered security vehicles, shooting sporadically into the air before arresting Okorocha’s son-in-law.
