The over two years labour matter pending at the Industrial Court Owerri involving aspirants that contested the 2018 botched NUJ elections, said to be declared inconclusive by the electoral committee for flimsy reasons leading to contestants heading to court has been adjourned to December 7 of this year.
Among those involved in the litigation are Elder Lambert Ojukwu, publisher of the Newspoint Newspaper and Sir Amby Uneze of This Day Newspaper.
They went to court to compel the NUJ electoral committee which had Barr Vivian Ottih as secretary to conclude the exercise which they started of which some vacant offices had been concluded and winners emerged.
The case, no doubt has lingered but the plaintiffs are bent on its logical conclusion.
Speaking to our reporter at the court premises, one of the litigants, Chief Lambart Ojukwu said, though the matter has lingered for so long, justice must prevail,stating that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.
He said, “the only way out is for the electoral committee which Vivian Ottih is the secretary to conclude the exercise. When asked whether he knows one Chris Akaraonye he said yes, but “Akaraonye is not a journalist and abinitio not qualified to contest and cannot parade himself as a chairman of Imo NUJ”.
He disclosed that the NUJ constitution provides that in event of a stalemate in an election a caretaker committee should be constituted. That is why all of us who took part in that election recognize the Comrade Precious Nwadike led executive.

Meanwhile, following the renovation of the Nigerian Union Of Journalists Secretariat recently, for which Imo journalists are contributing N5000 per head for the renovation, some of those aggrieved by the closure of the brothel in the secretariat and the reclaiming of the edifice which they almost sold took some adverse measures.
