The National Association Of Women Journalists,(NAWOJ) Imo State Chapter has flagged off her sensitization campaign on the importance of the Girl Child’s Health tagged ” The Girl Child Health, Donate A Pad” with a visit to Enyiogugu Secondary School in Mbaise
Speaking to students during the one day seminar the chairman of NAWOJ IMO State Chapter Barr. Vivian Ottih tutored the girls of Enyiogugu Secondary School Mbaise on how best to take care of their bodies and the importance of good hygiene in order to leave happily in future. Barr Ottih further encouraged them to take their studies serious stressing that girls who are ambitious and develop passion for their studies always excel. On the theme of this year’s international day for the Girl child celebration, the NAWOJ boss assured them that NAWOJ is making frantic efforts to talk to authorities concerned to make provisions for Girls to get every necessary help to get in tune with Technology so as to fit into the Digital world pointing out that this year’s theme is aimed at repositioning young girls to take advantage of technology to become great investors in future.
She reminded them that 11th of October every year set aside is a day by the United Nations to celebrate the girl child with attention on the needs and challenges of the growing young girl as well as the need for mainstreaming girls’ empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights.
The children were taught so many things including management of menstruation and the importance of using Sanitary Pad only during menstruation.
In addition, the organization called for concerted efforts to be draw attention to a wide range of issues and challenges facing young girls including, gender bias, early marriage, sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape, lack of opportunity in education and leadership, gender stereotype, discriminatory laws among others.
Nwachukwu Justina, Okorie Kindness, Nnaji Amarachi, Anyanwu Peace and Njuku Augusta expressed their overwhelming joy happiness and pleaded that the sensitization visit should be regular, pointing out that things they have learnt from the lectures are what will make them grow up to be a better women in the future. The students further expressed their feelings by singing and dancing in after the lectures.
In appreciation the Vice Principal of Enyiogugu Secondary school in charge of senior section Mrs. Ekeh CN thanked IMO NAWOJ for finding their school worthy to visited and prayed God to bless the members of the Association as they continue to impact meaningfully on the lives of growing young girls.
High point of the event was the distribution of sanitary Pads to female students and teachers in the school.
