The Imo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has described the one day working visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Imo State as a mockery of Imo citizenry.
The party stated that it received with mixed feelings the news of Mr President visit’s to the state today.
This was contained in a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Ogubundu Nwadike, in Owerri.
He noted that the Presidential visit is a grand event and something every state looks up to given the fanfare and camaraderie that comes with it because it provides the President opportunity to share the success story of any state being visited.
The release further said, “we note with regret that these familiar feelings and moods are absent in the case of the presidential visit to Imo State. Rather than be expectant and elated, the people are actually wondering what the president is coming to do in Imo State”.
It reiterated that the state which was once a land of peace, was been turned into a theater of war as a result of some inflammatory words and actions Governor Hope Uzodinma acted on.
The party reiterated that beyond all that has happened in the state like the innumerable extra-judicial killings the governor has been running a government from exile and visits the state whenever he deems fit.
Speaking on the state of infrastructure in Imo State, the opposition party opined that the governor has done very little to improve the infrastructural status of the state.
“There are no projects in any sector of the economy. Infact, the little economy the state had has been eroded by bad governance. Today, petroleum marketers in the state have jerked up pump prices of petroleum products because there is no government to negotiate with them over their grievances “.
The People’s Democratic Party in Imo State maintained that the presidential visit to the state is a deliberate ploy to ridicule and mock the people of the state.
It therefore called on the President to use the occasion of his visit to look inwards with a view of righting the wrongs he has done to the people of the state.
PDP also urged President Buhari to use his good offices to clip the wings of Governor Hope Uzodinma who runs the state from outside the state.
