· Why property recovery won’t be holistic
The saying that in politics, there are neither permanent friends nor enemies but permanent interest seems to be presently playing out in Imo state as the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma is said to be considering accommodating some of former governor, Rochas Okorocha’s core loyalists, supporters and members of his political structure in his new cabinet.
It was also gathered that some of them especially those who served as local government chairmen during Okorocha’s tenure and the entire members of Uche Nwosu’s political structure (BELIEVE) led by Hon Lawrence who campaigned vigorously for the actualization of his governorship ambition have already reached out to Governor Uzodinma to pledge their unalloyed support and loyalty.
Some of them who deserted Okorocha, who is now Senator for Imo West told this reporter that their initial support and loyalty for Okorocha was traceable to his son in-law, Uche Nwosu who according to them, more likeable, generous and accommodating. “But when we lost the 2019 election after all the risks we took, Okorocha deserted us and even went ahead to set up a structure for his presidential campaign without reference to them.”
They further revealed that despite the use and dump approach they continued to play along with Uche Nwosu until he started ignoring their calls.
A privileged source who spoke to this reporter expressed concern that with the proposed appointment of some of them who he described as political scavengers, most of who are directly or indirectly linked to some of the ill-acquired properties penciled down for recovery by the state government, the entire recovery process will not only be stalled but jeopardized. This is because their new found love and romance with the Uzodinma led government may guarantee them certain protection of their property at the expense of Imo people who joyously hope that a Daniel has come to judgment.”
There are also hints that some of Ohakim and Udenwa’s men will be accommodated in Uzodinma’s new cabinet “because, Governor Uzodinma lacks experienced politicians in his camp. Hence he started with political helophytes. But having learnt his lesson, he now wants to constitute a cabinet comprising tested and experienced politicians who have the capacity to deliver when the need arises.
However, some political pundits who commented on the development urged the governor to tread caution “as some of these inconsistent politicians may be infiltrators seeking relevance, protection and soft landing.”
