The Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers NIEE, Imo State Chapter, a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers yesterday August 5, 2021, declared interest to partner with the Nigeria Union of Journalists Imo State Chapter towards beautification of the complex by planting economic trees that would be beneficial to all.
Engr (Dr)Mrs Ngozi Claribelle Nwogu FNSE, MNIEE Chairman NIEE Imo State, who spoke at the occasion thanked Chairman of the Union, Precious Nwadike for the pains he has taken towards ensuring that this dream comes a reality.
Continuing, she mentioned that their sole aim is to ensure that the true nature of our environment is sustained and maintained through beautification which can be acquired through tree planting which will help in promoting a sustainable environment.

She stated that the tree planting of today would go a long way in changing the atmospheric look of the compound through their partnership with NUJ which will be made possible through adequate cooperation.
Speaking also at the occasion, Engr.Uche David Uche stated that the event would help in creating a landmark that is capable of creating chances that would better the environment.
He stressed that “our ecosystem needs to be adequately sustained which is why they are out today to plant Cocoa amongst other trees with emphasis on cocoa because it is a typical example of a plant that has lots of health benefits which would also help in promotion of purified oxygen.”
Mr Cyril Ali also maintained that this is a welcome development which needs to be adequately followed up for better productivity.
Amb. Innocent Dike, Chairman, Cocoa plantain farmers Association of Nigeria, Imo Chapter who also spoke maintained that this idea of cocoa tree planting is very important due to the fact that it is highly economical because of it’s fruit which it’s end product is used as chocolate.
Continuing,he stated that their aim is to plant 5million trees in Imo State between now and year 2025.
Speaking further, he mentioned that the price of cocoa is currently high in the economic market ranging from 3,000-3,500 dollars per ton.
He advised, that people should think of investing in Cocoa because of its high demand.
He hinted that it grows well in Imo State and called on the government to have a rethink about cocoa planting by ensuring that all hands are on deck to ensure that all approved bodies are included to enable them compete favorably with other states like Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Abia and others.
The Chairman Imo NUJ, Precious Nwadike thanked them immensely for finding them worthy to extend hands of fellowship to them.
He reiterated that he is bold to say ,that this union that started today with planting of trees will metarmophose into something greater and better, with time.
He equally called on the government to support and encourage NIEE Imo State Chapter in implementation, Control , Monitoring and evaluation of all the recovered water sheds for ecosystem restoration as well as, partnering with the NIEE Imo State Chapter in achieving it’s target of planting 5 million trees in all the watersheds in the 27 LGA of Imo State within 5 years to improve and recover the Ecosystem.
