The prevailing insecurity of lives and property in Imo state has again assumed a dangerous and frightening dimension as the Minority Leader of the Imo state House of Assembly, Hon Barr. Anyadike Nwosu on August 20, 2021, narrowly escaped kidnap attempt on him.
The vocal and erudite lawmaker who spoke to this reporter over the weekend, disclosed that the kidnappers who stormed his residence on a motor bike in the evening of that day when he was driving in, after his orderly and driver had gone home pounced on him, collected his mobile phones, money and other personal items.
They ordered him to enter his vehicle. When he refused, and attempted to escape they shot severally at him but by a stroke of luck, he dodged all the bullets as he ran for safety.
The Minority Leader revealed that, aside the injuries he sustained, he is a stable condition as he was not hit by any of the bullets fired at him.
He further hinted that the matter was first reported at the New Owerri Divisional Police Station before it was later transferred to the Anti kidnapping Unit of the state Police Command.
According to him, “when operatives from the New Owerri Police Station visited the scene of the incident, they wondered how he was able to survive five bullet shots fired by the dare devil kidnappers at close range. However, Hon Anyadike who attributed his escape to providence and divine intervention said God should take the glory.
When contacted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) New Owerri Police Station SP, Abiden Salawu declined comment. However, a police source told this reporter that the matter is being investigated.
On whether the kidnap attempt is politically motivated, Anyadike was evasive saying that he can’t presently point in any direction. He expressed optimism that the police will unravel the truth and bring the culprits to justice.
Effort to reach the Imo state police Public relation officer, CSP Micheal Abatam to confirm the report proved abortive as he didn’t take his call.
