The wave of political defection that has hit the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has continued unabated as one of the party’s senatorial aspirants in the 2019 general election, Hon. Hillary Ugochukwu Nwachukwu (Ugo-Sly) has left the party for the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.
At an event which took place at the APC Secretariat along Okigwe road on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, the popular Ugo-Sly announced his defection to the ruling party with his teeming supporters and foot soldiers in the state.
Hon. Ugochukwu hails from Ogwa in Mbaitoli Local Government Area and a notable politician in the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the Apex Leader of APC in Owerri Zone, Prince Lemmy Akakem thanked the people of Ogwa and Owerri Zone for giving birth to another elephant in the political landscape of the state stressing that Ugo-Sly is a big fish in the politics of the country.
Prince Lemmy Akakem noted that Ugo-Sly’s former party will now be crying for loosing such an important personality. He also stated that many people both big and small are now joining the APC in the state in order to support Governor Hope Uzodinma’s efforts to move the state forward.
In his speech, Hon. Ugochukwu Nwachukwu stated that he was overwhelmed by the warm reception accorded him by the APC family, stressing that “when I move, I move like a hurricane and when I drive, I drive like a whirlwind”.
Ugo-Sly further noted that Governor Hope Uzodinma cannot do the work of developing the state alone but needs people of like mind to get the work done. He described Senator Hope Uzodinma as a selfless man who wants the best for the people of the state. The Ogwa born politician equally used the opportunity to thank Prince Charles Amadi (Charlvon) and other notable leaders in the state for inspiring him to join the party. He pledged his loyalty to the leadership of the party in the state.
In his response, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC in the state, Barr. Marcelinus Nlemigbo (Marcon), expressed happiness for the coming of Ugo-Sly to the party. He also thanked those who made it possible for him to join the party. He urged other party leaders and members to intensify their efforts in attracting more people into the party. He also assured the new entrant, Ugo-Sly of a level playing ground to ensure that he enjoys all the rights and privileges of a full fledged member of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Highlight of the occasion was the official handover of APC flag and broom which signify his entrance to the party.
Adding his voice, the IMC Chairman of Mbaitoli LGA, Hon. John Eke stated that him and his prayer team have been praying for some notable people in Mbaitoli to join APC. Hon. Eke disclosed that Ugo-Sly is among those they have been praying for to join the party and that his coming to the party is like a prayer answered. He reiterated that there are three other people they are still praying that they join the party in order to help deliver APC in the forth coming elections. The Council boss opined that Ugo-Sly is a big fish maintaining that his joining the party will reinvigorate the party.
The event attracted many dignitaries among whom are Prince Charles Amadi (Charlvon), Hon. Dr Iyke Njoku, Hon. Kingsley Ononujo, IMC Chairmen of the nine LGA’s in Owerri zone and among others.
