The National Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Imo State Chapter has commended the wife of the governor, Barr Chioma Uzodinma for her efforts in making sure that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill (VAPP BILL) finally scaled through the House of Assembly after long heated deliberations that lasted for over one year.
A release signed by the state chairman of NAWOJ Barr Vivian Ottih stated that VAPP BILL being passed into law will promote social and economic growth among citizens and enable them to play active roles in community life without interference, as the law prohibits all forms of violence including physical, sexual, psychological, domestic, harmful traditional practices, discrimination against persons and provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishments for offenders.
Barr Ottih also expressed delight at the vision of the governor’s Barr Chioma Uzodinma in reaching out and touching the lives of women, youths, children and other vulnerable groups in the society and her magnanimity to those who lost their loved ones during the unknown gunmen era in the state.
She pledged the unalloyed support of women journalists in the state to the programs and activities of the office of the wife of the governor by giving it adequate and necessary publicity.
