-Expresses shock over development
| Following several reports, lamentations and outcries agansit alleged killing of members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by federal government and subsequent executive order by the the governor of Rivers State, officers of the Nigerian military in Oyigbo River state have been accused of extra-judicial killing and torture. As a result, the president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Barr Olumide Akpata has set up a fact finding team to ascertain the veracity of the reports. This was a contained in a statement made public by MBA yesterday. According to the release, Olumide Akpata and the Nigerian Bar Association have expressed deep concern over the alleged killings at Oyigbo, Rivers State having followed the development closely, with ulter disbelief and rude shock hence the need to set up the team. |
The names of the fact finding team include: John Aikpokpo Martins, as chairman, Victor Frank- Briggs, Chimaroke Ejie, Anthonia Osademe, as members.
The 4-man team will visit Oyigbo and conduct inquiry into the events of the last few days in the area, after which NBA will make its findings known and determine the next steps, to take towards ending the carnage and bloodbath.
