v 2020/2021 academic session now November 9
The Imo State school system under the Ministry of Education has finally released a programme of events and scheduled of activities for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions, with the subsisting academic session,expected to terminate on October 30, 2020.
The time table was as contained in a release signed by the Imo State Commissioner for Education, Prof. B.T.O. Ikegwuoha.
Dated October 25 (Monday) 2020 and captioned, “updated information about the Imo State Third Term examination for the 2019/2020 academic session”, the release which was addressed to the Acting. Chairman of SPEB, chairman of SEMB, NAPPS, ANCOPS, NUT, and heads of other state owned primary schools shows that the authorized resumption of schools for the third term, took effect on the 5th of October 2020, following His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma’s directive, which was adhered to before the youth protest and vandalization of public buildings and facilities” nearly aborted it.
According to the release, “in view of the above, teachers, Primary School Heads and Principals of Secondary Schools were asked to adhere to the guidelines provided to them -which are:
1. Resumption of schools/revision of all classes/lectures (October 5, 2020 – October 23, 2020)
2. Commencement of Examination (October 26, 2020 – October 30, 2020)
End of 2019/2020 Academic Session
3. Period for the Grading and Marking of Examination Papers by teachers: (October 31, 2020 – November 6, 2020)
*COMMENCEMENT OF 2020/2021 ACADEMIC SESSION*
The 2020/2021 Academic Session will commence on November 9, 2020 and end on December 23, 2020.
This timeline of academic activities and directives should be adhered and complied with by all the stakeholders in the Imo State Education Sector”.
However, the released did not mention any reintroduction of school fees and levies, especially PTA which is normally paid once in a session, hence gives the school heads room to impose arbitrarily, schools fees and PTA levies.
