The Special Adviser (SA) to the Governor of Imo State, on Markets and Allied Matters, Okenze Blyden Amajirionwu has commended his meet the market traders tours with Orlu International Market, Orio Okpor market and the Ultra Modern Building Materials Market Orlu. This is in accordance with his responsibility of building a cordial relationship between the traders and the shared prosperity government of Senator Hope Uzodinma. During the visits, the Special Adviser interacted with members and leadership of Orlu market Amalgamated Traders Association on how best to develop our markets and improve revenue generation through boosting the economy of Imo State.
In a release issued by the Media Assistant to the Special Adviser, James Ikedi Emeahu, assured Imo Traders of Governor Uzodinma commitment to serving the good people of Imo State by meeting their expectations.
“Amajirionwu and his entourage who were received by members of the association used the opportunity to propagate the 3R gospel of Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Gov. Uzodimma and assured the traders of an improved synergy between them and the government.
Chief Magnus Orlando Nwadike who is the President General of the association while welcoming the SA thanked him for deeming it fit to embark on the familiarization visit to their Markets and decried on how the previous administrations have neglected the “Imo International Market Orlu and other markets, “He alleged that the last time the market received government attention was during the administration of a former Governor His Excellency Dr Achike Udenwa.
Reacting to his voice Chief Nwachukwu Kenneth (pioneer secretary Imo International Market Orlu) lamented on the deplorable state of road network linking the Markets and how it has hampered the patronage of traders in the market and called on the state government to come to their aide by reconstructing the dilapidated roads which will improve patronage to traders and improve the expected IGR to the state government from the informal sector.
Furthermore Hon Onyekachi Nwokedi (Market Master) highlighted some other challenges traders have been facing in their various markets ranging from lack of electricity, illegal dumping of refuse among other things. He also appealed on the SA to use his good office to appeal to the Governor to enhance the standard of the markets by providing the basic Amenities needed in the markets”.
