The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Safety, Hon. (Prince) Ugochukwu Nzekwe has harped on the need for Imo people to desist from unlawful activities, unwholesome, and unsafe practices that may expose our villages, communities, and environ to environmental hazards and explosions that may result in loss of lives, properties and other unpleasant consequences.
Hon. Nzekwe, a two time member for Nkwerre State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, stated this, in a release he issued, dated 25th August 2020 and made available to the press.
The release stated that, “in view of unwholesome/unsafe practices and unlawful activities of some members of the public, that are likely to expose the state to environmental hazards, the state government, though the office of the S.A, public safety, has, after in view of the seriousness of the issues at stake, decided to, henceforth, check the actions and activities of some members of the public, with a view to avert danger, loss of lives and properties.
Government will also put machinery in motion, to ensure that all legitimate businesses in the state are done in accordance with set legal standards and procedure that will ensure absolute safety.
“It is also mandatory for all business owners to report accidents or possibility of accidents promptly, to the office of the S.A on Public Safety for prompt action. All inflammable goods, including liquid and hard substances must be handled with utmost care, in accordance with laid down laws and in conformity with international best practices”.
He also enjoined members of the public to be vigilant and observe happenings in their environment with keen interest. They are also advised to know what their neigbours store at home, the kind of business they do and report any suspicious or unwholesome/unsafe action, attitude or conduct to his office.
Hon. Nzekwe, also warned of the unpleasant consequences of storing petroleum products in illegal and unauthorized manner, stressing that culprits will be dealt with decisively.
The release further assured that the shared prosperity government of Governor Hope Uzodinma is poised to protect and safeguard our environment from any act capable of exposing Imolites, their properties and environment to danger.
All public gatherings are also henceforth directed to comply with and adhere strictly to the safety measures outlined by the Imo State taskforce on COVID-19.
