-Dimkpasaa describes PDP as purposeful opposition
In line with the political alignments and realignments presently going on all over the country, the entire leadership and members of the United Progressive Party (UPP), one of the vibrant political parties that fielded candidates for all elective positions in the state and beyond, during the 2019 general election, have joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) enmasse.
Speaking at the well attended epoch making ceremony at the PDP State Secretary, along Okigwe road Owerri, where the UPP collapsed it’s structures in the 27 local government areas and 305 wards in the state into the PDP, on Saturday 4th July, 2020, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sir Martin Ejiogu, commended the defectors for taking a wise decision. He recalled that their move is synonymous with one going back home to identify with his “kit and kin” because most of you belong here,”. He assured them of all the rights, privileges and benefits of membership and enjoined them to be focused, and result-oriented members who are poised to contribute their quota to the growth and sustenance of the party. He also stressed that similar receptions will soon be held at the local government and ward levels.
In his address, Chief Sir Ejike Uche (Dimkpassa), former Deputy National Chairman of UPP and leader of the party in the state, stated that they decided to join PDP because, it has offered quality and purposeful opposition and is also the only party that has programmes and policies that accommodate the interests, yearnings and aspirations of Ndi Igbo unlike the All Progressive Party and others who have no provision for the Igbos.
Continuing, Dimkpassa, said, “when our party UPP, was delisted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside other political parties, we deliberated extensively and embarked on critical analyses of the political climate and the realities of the Nigerian political situation at the moment. Thereafter, we concluded that the PDP is not only stable but has glaring prospects and goodwill for the genuine restoration of peace, unity and love that have eluded the country for some time now”. He also noted that the decision to join PDP, was unanimously taken, in line with the principles of due process, and in accordance with laid down procedure and guidelines.
Dimkpassa, a political Iroko and grassroots mobilizer assured that, they will contribute to the growth of the party and also spread it’s tentacles as well as using their individual and collective political strenght and structures in facing future challenges and winning elections.
Prior to introducing the 28 State Working Committee members of the UPP present at the occasion, UPP State Chairman, Engr Benji Ehirim, concoured with what Dinkpassa said and also pledged their loyalty and willingness to work with PDP to achieve desired results.
