The Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins has said that the support of the private sector is most critical in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus and in cushioning the hardship caused by the disease.

Chiji Collins, said the private sector must lead the way in pooling resources to capacitate underfunded hospitals and make them accessible to all Imolites, as well as, support the government efforts in providing Palliatives to Imo citizens.

In a release by the media office of the Speaker recently, the Speaker was quoted as stating that the Coronavirus pandemic has provided the ideal opportunity for the private sector, like banks, hotels, service stations, multinationals, supermarkets, Beverage companies, insurance and oil companies to pool their resources to equip public hospitals and assist the state government in providing more palliatives to Imo citizens who are inflicted with hunger, anger and penury as a result of the lockdown.

He said that realities on ground have made it mandatory for our society to depend on the private sector for support, spur innovation and drive economic growth. He noted also that the government must rely on the private sector to create wealth, provide support for citizens and jobs.

While calling for active partnership between the private sector and the state government in the fight against the Coronavirus Pandemic, he informed that the government will on it’s own part support the private sector through the process of achieving their objectives by partnering with them.
