An eye witness account,yesterday narrated how thugs who came in company of a lawmaker to Imo State chapter of All Progressive Congress(APC) Secretariat, located along Okigwe road beat up a journalist whose identity was not immediately ascertained at the instance of a lawmaker from Okigwe zone(namewitheld)
The source hinted that the Lawmaker who had joined his colleagues to receive decampees from PDP to APC on getting to the secretariat saw a journalist whom he said was fond of writing and publishing stories against him and instructed some thugs that came to the party secretariat with him to mark him for possible attack.
As gathered, the thugs waited until virtually everyone had gone,remaining staff of at the party secretariat before they trailed the journalist and started beating him .”It took the intervention of some party stalwarts to save the journalist”,he stated.
Effort to reach the lawmaker for reaction was unsuccessful as his phone line was not available at the time of filing this report.
