The Speaker, Imo state House of Assembly, Dr. Chiji Collins, has commenced the distribution of palliatives to 38 autonomous communities, in12 electoral wards of Isiala Mbano local government area of Imo state, to cushion the effects of the corona virus induced lockdown.
The media office of the Speaker made this disclosure in Isiala Mbano council headquarters on Monday.
Speaking while flagging off the distribution of the relief materials, Speaker Chiji Collins, said that his palliatives will be shared alongside, that of the Imo state government to the 38 autonomous communities in Isiala Mbano local government area.
He explained that the relief materials were meant to cushion the effects of the coronavirus induced lockdown, as well as, contribute in combating the deadly Corona virus pandemic which has killed over 60,000 and infected more than one million persons worldwide.
He said the exercise, which is being coordinated at the Isiala Mbano local government headquarters, was without discrimination.
The Speaker, however, advised community leaders to ensure equitable distribution of the relief materials.
Items donated include: bags of rice; bags of beans, salt, noodles, tomatoes and other palliatives.
In a message to his constituents, the Speaker appealed to them to take the threat posed by the coronavirus disease seriously and obey government and health instructions aimed at stopping its spread.
