This may not be a good time for Imo State chapter of People democratic party(PDP) as report has it that the party is tactically disenfranchising those suspected to be Senator Samdady Anyanwu’s loyalists.
Senator Samdady Anyanwu was recently suspended by the State working committee of PDP but just yesterday, the National Executive Council of the party quashed his suspension.
A visit to the party secretariat by this reporter showed that some party members who had come to purchase forms were left stranded. Those who made effort to see the party’s organizing secretary,Mr Law Biaduo were told that forms were not available for sale.
However,Investigation revealed that only those loyal to Rt.Hon Emeka Ihedioha were given the forms while some of the party leaders coordinating for Ihedioha were allowed to go home with bulk of the forms and distribute to their lineup.
On March 10, 2020, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oru East LGA stormed the Imo State secretariat of the party along Okigwe road Owerri, protesting the refusal of the state leadership to make available the nomination forms for the fast approaching state congress of the party.
Led by one Chief Sunday Chifoanu, a former PRO of the party in the LGA, the members were angry to learn that sale of forms has closed. Responding to reporters enquiry on their next line of action in respect to their inability to access the forms, Chief Chifoanu who like others said that there is a foul play and accused the State Organizing Secretary of Imo PDP of releasing the forms to only Ihedioha’s Loyalists at Oru East.
He accused Chief Marshal Okoroafor Anyanwu, who he said was not originally of the PDP family of vaunting ambition to destabilize Imo PDP.
Corroborating his speech, Ozoemena Nwugo lamented the injustice being meted out to them when he stated that they have been coming for the forms since February, only to be frustrated at last. He expressed surprise that Chief Anyanwu who he said is not an authentic member of PDP,having defected from APGA and APC was the one the state leadership handed over all the nomination forms. He could not understand why the State Organizing Secretary of Imo PDP should handover the entire forms to him after they had vowed never to sell forms to individuals or to release it to non-party executive committee members in the LGAs.
Speaking on the same note, Chief Patrick Nwilu from Awo ward II accused the state PDP leaders of deceit. He believed that they have hijacked the forms but vowed that he will resist the attempt to deprive them of participating effectively in the congress. He added, “no force can stop them and that they are ready to seek redress in court and recover their party from the wolves”.
Effort to reach Hon Marshal Anyanwu was unsuccessful as he did not take his phone lines were unavailable.
