The Chairman, Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) Barr. Julius Onyenaucheya, has stated that, there is no going back on the proposed Imo Council election already scheduled to hold by December 2019, as the commission is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the exercise is a huge success.
Barr. Onyenaucheya told Watchdog reporter in an exclusive chat, that to ensure that the December 2019 date is a reality,the commission has just concluded tours of 27 LGAs for ISIEC wards delineation exercise, which he said is key towards having a successful and credible council election in the state. He used the opportunity to thank Imolites for their attitude of hospitality and support and wonderful co-operation accorded the commission during the exercise.
Barr. Onyenaucheya further revealed that the commission will make use of the current INEC register used for the 2019 general election, as there is nothing to add or subtract from it.
The ISIEC boss equally made it clear that on 11 July, 2019, the commission invited all political parties in the state and informed them of the Imo Councils election coming up December, 2019, insisting that from July 11 to December 2019, is six (6) months, which period takes care of the 90 days stipulated by ISIEC electoral guideline before an election can take place, after notification.
He therefore maintained that the commission will in a couple of weeks, release the time table for the 2019 Imo council election, while urging Ndi Imo to expect the freest and fairest election ever in the state.
