Some elders and leaders of Imo State, who visited the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Engr. Gerald Irona,recently and advocated that the present government institutes a probe or criminal justice inquiry and full investigation of the immediate past rescue mission administration, with a view to recovering looted public property and funds, have cried out to the government and the security to give them protection, as their lives and safety can no longer be assured, following to the alleged suspected plots to eliminate or assassinate these vocal elders.
According to one of the elders who was part of the visit but pleaded anonymity stated that all of them who were part of the visit to the deputy governor are being trailed with a plot to harm them while a few others have been receiving threatening calls from unknown persons.
According to the elders, “since after our visit and later official actions by government, we have been individually receiving strange calls, while some of us observed strange movements around our their, suggesting some danger, hence we appeal to the Governor and security agencies to provide adequate security to these elders and leaders”.
Some of those who embarked on the emissary revealed that they can no longer move freely in the streets of Owerri, but were resolute in stating that the decision of the Ihedioha led administration to institute criminal proceedings on the Okorocha led rescue mission government is the best decision taken by Governor Ihedioha, on behalf of Imo people.
So far, an Owerri Magistrate sitting in the state capital, Owerri, has summoned the former Governor of Imo State, Senator Ethelbert Rochas Okorocha, to appear before it on October 8,2019 over complaints leveled against him of fermenting trouble and inciting his supporters to disobey the present government, actions capable of causing breach of peace. That goes to confirm the arrest warrant on Okorocha, anywhere he is sighted in Imo State.
