A pro-democracy group under the auspices of Imo good governance team, IGGT has berated the Economic and Financial Crime Commission,EFCC for allegedly unsealing properties belonging to governor Rochas Okorocha and his family members.
In a release signed by the Director of Media and publicity, Mr. Uche Okechukwu IGGT expressed surprise that those establishments which are undoubtedly built with public funds are now unsealed within a space of time without any explanation to Imo people. It stated that from the onset, they have always been skeptical of the style of EFCC in fighting corruption, especially when it affects members of the ruling party.
“Okorocha is a sitting senator of the Federal Republic Nigeria and of APC.We suspected the media hype and the audacity with which Rochas family members were confronting the recovery committees and remained unmoved throughout the period. No wonder they were recently dancing and showing no remorse for looting Imo blind”, the release stated.
They commended Governor Emeka Ihedioha for constituting a probe committee for land but urged him to do more on recovery of those properties, assuring that Imo people are with the governor in this regard and will continue to defend him as long as he remains unshaken even in the face of their blackmails.
It would be recalled that EFCC had last month sealed-off some of Governor Okorocha and wife’s properties including Uche Nwosu’s school at New Owerri. The move was, however, commanded by Imo people most of who believe that the past governor was indeed reckless in management of public funds and should be held to account for them.
