The National Executive Council of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, the apex socio-cultural youth body sheltering the entire youths of Orlu zone, had over the weekend called on the former governor of Imo State who is now a senator representing Imo West at the National Assembly, to resign and apologize to Imo people for the embarrassment he has caused and still causing the people of Orlu zone.
In a release, jointly signed by Engr. Christian Okolie, Comrade Chibuike Odunze as National President and Publicity Secretary, respectively, which was made available to Tuesday Watchdog, the group said it took the wise decision when in 2012, it denounced the former Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, as Grand patron of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, after realizing he does not mean well to the people.
They further stated that, with the latest development bothering on monumental corruption, malfeasances and improprieties it is obvious that the former governor, now senator of Orlu zone has brought shame to the zone and should immediately resign as Senator, to save whatever remains of his battered integrity.
“We have read the correspondences on how he awarded contracts amounting to N20 Billion to one company which is believed to be owned by his kinsman, Paschal Obi and himself without due process. We knew that Okorocha was not sincere and lacked the leadership capacity to govern any decent society, hence our resolve to reject him in 2015, but unfortunately some hungry politicians in Imo, who were blinded by filty lucre and handouts supported him and leveraged him to plunder Imo into this kind of mess that we have found ourselves.
We call on the controversial Senator to resign, as his further stay in the senate is no longer acceptable to the Orlu people. From the onset, his emergence as senator of Orlu zone was characterized by massive irregularities and unimaginable desperation. However, he claimed he had trailer load of money to navigate himself to power at all cost which eventually played out during the election”, the release stated.
Continuing, Orluzurumee Youth Assembly vowed to stop at nothing in ensuring that Okorocha is paid in his own coin, as he has over the years taken his people for granted, in such a deceitful manner that smacks of low life and poverty driven mentality.
The group further revealed their plans to initiate a recall process which they said is constitutional should Rochas Okorocha, fail to heed to their advice to leave the senate without further delay.
They opined that what has happened in Imo State in the past 8 years under Okorocha was a disaster and thanked God that, Imo people at the end prevailed and sent Okorocha and his selfish desire to perpetuate himself in power through his son-inlaw, packing. “ Until this time, we were wondering why the governor wanted his son-inlaw, Uche Nwosu, at all cost, to succeed him against wise counsels from both the political and religious leaders”, OYA averred.
Meanwhile, Orluzurumee Youth Assembly in a separate release also revealed how Okorocha is working tirelessly to mobilize some jobless youths to Abuja to protest against EFCC investigation of his ill-acquired property using one Kingsley Kelechukwu Chukwunoye, who he once used to destabilize National Association of Imo State Students (NAISS) and another, Arthur Madumere, all of who claim to be loyal to Uche Nwosu and Chief Reuben Okoro who also supported Uche Nwosu, clandestinely.
They advised the general public to disregard any of such characters as they have become instrument of destruction in the hands of greedy politicians.
