The former President of Orluzurumee socio-cultural union said to have been enmeshed in “Dud Cheque scandal”, Barr Rueben Okoro over the weekend allegedly recruited some aggrieved youths most of who were expelled from Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, for different offences ranging from fraud, stealing etc, to defend him.
According to a source present at the hurriedly organized “election”, Okoro while addressing the youths claimed that he is the founder of Orluzurumee and Board of Trustees Chairman. He stated that the successive presidents of Orluzurumee betrayed him and were all removed boasting that at any time the president is removed, the constitution says he becomes the acting President pending when there is another executive.
The highly embattled former book seller turned politician, had before now, been accused of defrauding some leaders including a former Vice Chancellor who was unlawfully removed from office by the Imo State government under Governor Ikedi Ohakim.
Okoro had, according to our source approached the then VC, claiming that he needed to convene a meeting of Orlu leaders in which the issue bothering on his suspension would be discussed. “It was on this basis, the VC parted with some huge sum of money but as greedy as he was, Okoro never convened any meeting”.
The source also revealed that apart from forcefully acquiring lands belonging to his kinsmen on which he built his residential home at Atta in Njaba,Okoro was also accused of extorting money from unsuspecting political leaders on the pretence of securing political appointments.
When contacted on the wide ranging issues, Okoro denied the allegation stating that he has never issued dud chaque to anyone before instead, those parading such Dud cheque forged it to nail him and his political career.
It was later gathered that among those who emerged in the Barr Rueben Okoro led Orluzurumee Youth Wing are; Mr Arthur Madumere as President while former President of National Union of Imo State Students, NUISS, Mr Kingsley Kelechukwu Chukwunonye emerged as Vice President.
Imvestigation revealed that NUISS is an Organization Uche Nwosu, Rochas Okorocha’s Son-Inlaw allegedly used to destabilize the original Imo State students’ body known as National Association of Imo State Students, NAISS.
“Others are Mr Don Uba who was also recently arrested by Imo State police command for defrauding Imo Journalists as Publicity Secretary; Mr Henry Anwusiowu and others”, our source hinted.
Congratulating the youths elected as Youth wing of Okoro led Orluzurumee, the National leadership of Orlzurumee Youth Assembly through a release signed by Engr. Christian Okolie, Comrade Chibuike Odunze as President and secretary respectively advised them to desist from impersonating Orluzurumee Youth Assembly as doing that will land them in trouble since the youth body is registered and does not accommodate youths with questionable character.
The release stated that it has forwarded to the police copies of certificate of registration of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly in a petition through the commissioner of police. The release also stated that OYA does not have any business with Okoro and would never have considering what he, (Okoro) represents.
