The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in Imo state, Hon. John Iwuala, has described the recently concluded Ward and LGA congresses across the state, as the most credible ever held by any political party in the state. He stated this recently in his office while addressing some journalists, and stressing that, his caretaker committee was strictly mandated to conduct a free, fair and credible congress to further strengthen the party in the state.
“All across the 27 local government areas of Imo state have conducted their congresses to elect officers of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
According to the party guidelines, the ward executives emerged on Sunday, 19th May, 2019, while in turn the ward executives elected the LGA executives on the 21st May, 2019, which would set the stage for the state congress on Thursday, 23rd May, 2019”, he explained.
According to the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Iwuala, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) set up the committees in line with the powers conferred on it by the APGA constitution. He also maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies were involved in monitoring the exercise as required by the party guidelines.
Hon. Iwuala also revealed that the party in it’s wisdom to make the exercise more participatory and credible did not sell it’s congress forms to intending aspirants. He called on other political parties to emulate and take a queue from APGA.
On the issue of aggrieved party members, following what played out in the last primary election, Hon. Iwuala assured all the party members that the party is doing everything humanly possible to reunite the party and make it stronger in the time to come, thus claiming that APGA has moved from been an ethnic party to a national mass movement of a party, having produced a number of National Assembly members in different states of the federation.
The Imo APGA Caretaker Committee Chairman while speaking, also hinted that the party in recent time has been receiving new members, who besiege his office on daily basis from different political parties, owing to the doggedness of the caretaker committee members and other notable party leaders, and that very soon, APGA in Imo state and in Nigeria at large, will become a religion that everybody will embrace.
He therefore appealed to all aggrieved party members to close ranks with the party to build a more formidable party, starting from every polling unit.
