The Imo State chapter of United Progressive party,UPP has reacted to a publication by one Kelechi Chukwu calling on INEC to cancel the just concluded election on the ground that that it was marred by irregularities.
In a release signed by the State Publicity Secretary of UPP, Mr. Ejike Ogbonna, he stated that, the statement credited to Mr Kelechi Chukwu, came to the party as a surprise as the so-called “Mezie Imo group” can not speak for the party in a matter like this.
The party through its Publicity Secretary maintained that, it is at home with the performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the said election that produced Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, as the governor-elect. The party also applauded the electoral umpire for not allowing itself to be coerced into doing the biddings of desperate politicians in the state.
The party used the opportunity to congratulate the governor-elect, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha on his well deserved victory stressing that the party is willing to work with him in actualizing his “Rebuild Imo Agenda”.
It hinted that the party tried all it could to battle infiltrators who claimed to be contesting election but who only came to spoil other people’s chances and that those were moles, who wouldn’t have made good governance if given the opportunity to govern the state.
The release therefore called on the general public to disregard such publications by faceless group. It also used the opportunity to commend the wisdom of its National Deputy Chairman, Chief Ejike Uche and other leaders in ensuring that the party remains formidable in the state without such characters.
