The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance, yesterday kicked off his local government campaigns with visits to Onuimo and Okigwe LGAs of the State.
Starting off with a visit to the traditional rulers of Onuimo LGA in the residence of Eze Iheanacho Jideofor, the Okwu 1 of Umuduruegbeaguru, who is the Chairman, Council of Onuimo Traditional Rulers, Nwosu assured the traditional rulers of his commitment to the improvement of the welfare of all citizens. He promised to dedicate 5% of all allocations coming to the State for community development which shall be managed exclusively by the traditional rulers.
According to him; “Imo traditional rulers shall be well taken care of by my administration, as I shall ensure that they are integral members of my cabinet as members of the Imo State Advisory Board which I shall set up as soon as I am inaugurated as governor.”
At the Ezelu Okwe Primary School Field, Onuimo and Police Field, Okigwe, the Imo State University trained urban and regional development expert unveiled a lucrative agricultural development plan for the two LGAs, which he says shall put the areas on good stead to compete favorably with other parts of Nigeria in the area of rice production.
“My Eight Point Policy Thrust includes an agricultural development plan that focuses on harnessing the agricultural wealth of each LGA according to their areas of comparative advantage. Okigwe and Onuimo LGAs have good soils for rice production and my administration shall make concerted investment towards ensuring that these LGAs become the rice hubs of the entire Southeast. We shall invest in mechanized farming and encourage our youths to return to the farmland as a means of wealth creation for themselves and improving food security for the nation.
The AA governorship candidate also encouraged the mammoth crowd who graced the campaign venues to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari for a continuation of the President’s people oriented policies and as well vote for the AA candidates who are standing election to national assembly and State Assembly seats.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Onuimo Council of Traditional Rulers affirmed that Governor Rochas Okorocha has in the last seven years brought unprecedented development to Onuimo LGA and the entire Okigwe. He praised the Imo State governor for siting the Imo State University of Science and Technology in Onuimo and for the several roads and other Infrastructures that he gave to the people of Onuimo and for turning Okigwe into a city.
According to the traditional ruler; “We appreciate Owelle for all he has done and we shall support you to continue and consolidate on the enormous people oriented policies and programs of the Rescue Mission.” He also praised the workaholic spirit of the immediate past Chief of Staff to the Imo State Government, arguing that as an ‘engine room’ of the Okorocha government he was always on hand to ensure that the projects of the government were properly executed.
“As the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, I am a witness to your commitment to the advancement of the policies of the government. I had seen you visit construction sites even on Sundays in order to ensure that work is going on well.”
Nwosu also used the opportunity to present a social contract document to all the traditional rulers present with an appeal to them to apply for projects in their different communities that are of utmost importance to them and hold him responsible for their execution when he takes over as governor of the State.
