The Orlu zone Journalists under the auspices of Orlu zone Conference of Journalists(OZCOJ)on Sunday,December 30 celebrated their end of year party with funfar.
The event which took place at the Orlu zone Traditional rulers’ hall,located at the Orlu LGA council headquarters was chaired by the former Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists,Imo State Chapter,Chief Fidel Onyeneke.
In his opening remark,the chairman of the occasion,Onyeneke,discribed the union as a formidable group that has come to stay with its objective to promote the welfare of Orlu people.He revealed how some persons who are troubled by the exploits of the union had called to discourage him from attending the function.According to the former NAN boss, “I do not see anything wrong with professionals coming to gether to form a walfarist group like OZCOJ.I commend the initiative and will continue to support the group”.He urged the union to remain committed in their resolve to uniting the zone.
The Cordinator of the group,Ambassador Ikenna Onuoha in his speech,thanked the special guests and the awardees which included four major newspaper publishers who hail from Orlu zone,namely;Comrade Precious Nwadike,the Publisher of Watchdpg Newspaper and UPP candidate for Orlu zone;Elder Lambert Ojukwu,Publisher of Newspoint Newspaper;Ambassador Sherly Munaonye,Publisher of Frontline Newspaper and Mr Modestis Nwakpa,Publisher of Big Truth Newspaper.
The highlight of the occasion was the reception of the NUJ deputy National Chairman,Mr Protus Obi and award presentation to Chief Hope Uzodinmma,Senator representing Imo West senatorial district who was represented by his Media aide,Chief Declan Emelumba and the four publishers all of who were present at the occasion.
Other personalities who graced the occasion include;The Director General of Imo Broadcasting cooperation(IBC) pastor ,Representative of Imo State governor,Rochas Okorocha,Chief Obinna Okwuaka and host of others.
Meanwhile,the group had in a separate release before the occasion accused Sam Onwuemedo of demarketing their brother,Owelle Rochas Okorocha through his antagonistic tendencies and intellectual emptiness in carrying out his duty as a media handler to the governor.They wondered how a Chief press secretary to a governor who should make more friends for his principal will delight in fighting on all front.
