The senator representing Okigwe zone and former speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Benjamin Uwajumogu, has disclosed how Okorocha derailed from the well thought out development plans they collectively designed for Imo people. Uwajumogu also stated how he was sidelined by the Okorocha’s government to pave way for his self aggrandizement and avarice.
The senator stated this in a chat with media executives in Owerri, recently during which he said, “from the onset, the executive and the legislature had articulated a well thought out programme on how to develop Imo State within four years. Hence the legislature passed the four year capital development budget in 2011. This he argued was to enable the governor carry out some of the projects they had articulated, remunerated and estimated at N197 billion, expected to roll for four years”.
Uwajumogu explained further, that the budget was to complete a total of 15km roads in each LGA and one General Hospital, with the prototype modeled after St. Michaels Hospital, Nkwerre in each of the local government areas. “It was also to cover the now appropriated Eastern Palm University, started as IMSU permanent site at Ogboko, the proposed College of Education Ihitte/Uboma, the young scientists college among others. The consideration was also given for Okigwe and Mbaise campuses so as to capture most JAMB candidates of Imo origin who cannot secure admission into existing tertiary institutions despite securing very high scores. A dual carriage way from Irete to Oguta, aimed at expanding and decongesting the Owerri Capital Territory, was also proposed,he averred.
Uwagumogu expressed shock that the Governor aborted the well articulated four year rolling plan by derailing from the agreement due to selfish interests, and greed. He was of the view that had Rochas Okorocha remained focused to this development plans, Imo would have moved to the next level.
He added that initially, Rochas Okorocha’s approach towards reclaiming Avutu poultry Obowo, Adaplam Estates, Ohaji, Aboh Mbaise were Resin and Paint Industry was built by Chief Sam Mbakwe but which were sold off by his successors, was his brainchild. Continuing, Chief Uwajumogu who is the APC candidate for Okigwe senatorial zone in the fast approaching elections said, nobody can explain what has happened to those establishments now.He added that the initial plan did not however capture the construction of Prince and Princess or Akachi Hotels, which were unilaterally initiated by the governor.

It was against this background that he called on Imolites to close ranks and stop Okorocha from his self driven third term agenda, otherwise the Ogboko born Owelle Rochas Okorocha would turn out to be more reckless. “Electing Uche Nwosu, who married Okorocha’s daughter within this period, would further embolden Okorocha to deal ruthlessly with Imo people”, he warned thus, recalling how he once advised Okorocha against projecting his son-inlaw as governor. Such an advice coming from him, made him an enemy of the Governor, who desperately wish to foist Nwosu on Imolites as Governor.
